Emergent Layer
The Emergent Layer is the upmost part of a rainforest. These trees can be as tall as some skyscrapers! Only a few trees reach this layer as it is so high up. The trees on the Emergent layer have thin branches and their leaves are umbrella shaped. Harpy eagles live in this layer as well as lots of insects and butterflies.
Canopy Layer
In the Canopy Layer, the trees can grow to 30 meters The Canopy Layer shelters the Forest Floor from sunlight, the leaves of the plants here are mostly pointed at the end. The pointed leaves help get rid of all the water on the leaves. It's really hard for scientists to study the canopy layer because it's so hard to reach. Cockatoos, macaws and lots of different animals live in this layer.
Understory Layer
The Understory Layer is normally very hot and sticky. This part of the rainforest in under the trees and leaves but above the ground. The small amount of light in this layer allows the plants to think of smart ways to survive so they make their leaves big, so they can absorb as much sunlight as possible. Mostly reptiles live in this area.
Forest Floor
This place hardly receives any sunlight at all! Fallen plants from the upper layers rot really quickly. The bottom isn't crowded at all, in fact, there is lots of room for you to wander about. The soil here gets it's nutrients from the decayed plants and animals so they grow big and strong enough to survive.
